Work order management for fiber installation companies

A work order in FiberAdmin holds everything about one visit: the client and address, the contractor and project it belongs to, the crew, the reserved materials and, at the end, the technician’s completion report. The office and the field work on the same record, so nobody retypes anything.

One record from booking to approval

Create a job with a short wizard: pick the client, choose the type (installation, repair, maintenance, inspection or replacement) and the priority, set a date, time and duration, and assign a crew or individual technicians. The status follows on its own: unassigned, assigned or scheduled. Each order gets a number such as WO-1042, and the contractor and project are taken from the client, so the job lands in the right report without extra steps.

Statuses that match the work in the field

Technicians move their own jobs to en route, on site and in progress from the phone. When something stops the job, they mark it as blocked or needing a follow-up and pick a reason from a fixed list, such as customer not home, missing materials or fiber infrastructure unavailable. Admins get a notification straight away. The work order list has views for unassigned, blocked, follow-up and awaiting review, with filters for type, crew, priority and date.

The completion data contractors ask for

For installations, the form records the building type, in-house cabling, laying method, ONT power, PON and alarm lamp states, the ONT serial number and the result. Repairs record the reported problem, root cause, fault location and action taken. Photos are sorted into categories such as fiber entry, cable route, ONT and signal test, and the customer can sign on the technician’s screen.

Reviewed before a job counts as done

A submitted job is locked for the crew. Someone in the office checks the photos, materials and form, then approves the job or reopens it. Corrections made by the office are recorded, and every change to a work order appears in the audit log with who made it and when. Jobs past the contractor’s SLA deadline are flagged as breached, and jobs within two days of it as at risk.

How it works

  1. 1Create the job for a client, for example one you just imported from Excel.
  2. 2Assign a crew and a date. The job appears in each assigned technician’s app.
  3. 3On site, the technician updates the status and fills in the completion form.
  4. 4The submitted job waits under “awaiting review” with photos, materials and form.
  5. 5Approve it, or reopen it so the crew can add what is missing.

Questions

Which job types does FiberAdmin support?

Installation, repair, maintenance, inspection, replacement and other. Repairs have their own completion questions (root cause, fault location, action taken); the other types use the installation form with building type, ONT lamps and serial number.

Can technicians change a job after submitting it?

No. Once submitted, the job is locked for the crew. An admin can approve it or reopen it, and any correction the office makes to the completion form is written to the audit log.

How do we see that a job is close to missing the SLA?

Each contractor has an SLA target in days, counted from when the job was created. FiberAdmin marks a job as at risk when two days or fewer remain and as breached once the deadline has passed. The number of breaches also appears in the contractor’s report.

Can several technicians work on one job?

Yes. Assign a whole crew, individual technicians, or both. Everyone assigned sees the job in their app and gets a notification in FiberAdmin when it is assigned to them.
