Crew scheduling for fiber installation teams

The schedule board shows the week with one row per crew and one column per day. Planning is a matter of moving cards: once a job sits on a crew’s day, it is in those technicians’ apps, ready for the morning.

A week board per crew

Every job with a date appears on the board under its crew, with a separate row for jobs that don’t have a crew yet. Drag a job to another day or another crew and the work order updates at once. On a phone, the board becomes a one-day agenda, so a team leader can check tomorrow’s plan from the van. Jobs without a date stay in the work order list until you schedule them.

Absences on the board

Approved vacations, sick days, training and other absences are shown on each day of the board, so you see who is off before you hand out work. Technicians request time off from their app, and the office approves or declines it. Only vacation days are taken off a person’s allowance; sick days and training are not.

Appointment messages customers can answer

Once a job has a date, send the customer an appointment message from the work order. It goes out by SMS, WhatsApp or RCS and links to a page with the date, time, address and your company’s phone number. The customer confirms, or asks for another day and time with an optional note. You get a notification, and the answer is saved on the job and in the audit log.

From the board to the technician’s phone

Assigned technicians get a notification in FiberAdmin and find the job in their list for that day. Their Today screen shows the jobs in time order, with a route link that opens Google Maps with the day’s stops, nearest first. Appointment links expire after seven days, or once the job is completed or cancelled, and moving a job to a new date resets the customer’s answer to pending.

How it works

  1. 1Create jobs with a date, or leave them unscheduled for now.
  2. 2Open the week board and drag each job onto a crew and a day.
  3. 3Check the absences shown on each day before you settle the week.
  4. 4Send each customer an appointment message from the work order.
  5. 5The crew sees the job in the app, and the customer’s answer appears on the job.

Questions

Does FiberAdmin stop me from booking someone who is on vacation?

No. Approved absences are shown on each day of the board so you see them while planning, but the board doesn’t block the assignment. The decision stays with whoever plans the week.

How does the customer receive the appointment?

You send it from the work order once the job has a date and the customer has a phone number with a country code. The message links to a page where the customer confirms or asks for another time. They don’t need an account or an app.

Does FiberAdmin optimise routes?

There is no route optimisation. The technician app opens Google Maps with the day’s stops ordered nearest first, and every job has a button that starts navigation to its address.

Can I check the plan on a phone?

Yes. On small screens the schedule shows one day at a time as an agenda, which is handy for checking the plan on the road. For moving many jobs around, the week board on a laptop is quicker.
